Thinking about the future
As one of my friends left work for the last time last Friday, it brought to mind that I only have 2 weeks left myself. He was planning to retire and mentioned to others that he would like to be let go, but it never happened and he just got tired of waiting. I truly don't think management expected it.I don't think they expect the other girl across the aisle to leave either, but she confided in me that she won't be there past the end of the year. I will at least be leaving with my package and will be able to collect unemployment. I could retire now but I'd rather wait a couple of years and get a bigger percentage of my pension, so I'll be sending out resumes and looking for employment next year. In anticipation, I colored my hair again today. I think it's the first time since it grew back after the chemo. It was pretty gray, so it's kind of a shock when I look in the mirror - went with a dark auburn. I think I like it though. Can't wait to see the looks on the faces when I walk into work tomorrow - heehee. | | Wednesday, November 11th, 2009 | | 7:08 pm |
Happy Veterans Day
I don't really come from an army family, but I have to say I grew up among men who served in the armed forces. My Dad served in the US army during WWII as did most of my uncles. My cousins served in Vietnam - one died there. My grandfather was a "lifer" in the British Army, as was his father. I have a lot of respect for veterans, they do a job I am incapable of and I truly believe that they put their life on the line for people like me. While I am hard pressed to support a war, I will do whatever I can to support the people who fight for me and for my country. All I can say id a heartfelt Thank You and God Bless you all | | Thursday, October 15th, 2009 | | 7:08 pm |
Today I found out that after 35 years with the same company, my position has been eliminated. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet, I'll miss the people, I've made a lot of friends over the years but for the last couple of years the stress has been pretty bad and I really don't see it getting any better. I'm not really worried. I've always landed on my feet and have no reason to believe that I won't again. I'm still better off than alot of people and believe me, I know it and I'm grateful for that. | | Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 | | 7:56 pm |

Where did it go?
First day of fall, where did the summer go? I seems like it rained for months. I don't mind some rain, but this was ridiculous. They are moving our workplace again, but not until we spend one more season in the blistering cold at the top of the mountain, of course, I still have to get through the next round of cuts before I have to worry about that. I used to at least look forward to the Christmas season, and now that the grandbaby is living here, that's not so bad any more, but I will miss the warm breezes for the season anyway. It's funny. If it were this temperature in the spring instead of the fall - we'd be celebrating the warmth - I gues lots of things depend on the view you're looking from | | Sunday, September 13th, 2009 | | 7:33 pm |
I don't know why I have such a tough time posting on a regular basis. Just seems like I have nothing to say. I'm taking Monday and Tuesday off work - hubby's birthday is on Tuesday and we;'ll be going out to get the new Wolverine movie - so exciting, huh? | | Saturday, September 5th, 2009 | | 4:02 pm |
Saturday
been off work since Thursday - yay - getting ready to have hubby's family up tomorrow for a picnic. Thursday we tool the baby to claws and paws ANIMAL FARM. It was fun, we got to feed parrots and a giraffe, along with the petting zoo animal. I think her favorite part was getting to dig for dinosaurs in the sand - that and the river otters. Yesterday was cleaning day and perk up the garden day - the garden is in pretty bad shape but I picked up some mums to spruce it up, and the gladiolas are blooming, so I have that going for me. OPening day for PSU today so hubby is at the obligatory card game with his fellow Penn Staters and watching the game - I won't spend a saturday with him again until Thanksgiving. Youngest daughter and I took the baby to the Italian festival and had a good time and some good eats. At least I get to rest on Monday Current Mood: calm | | Sunday, August 30th, 2009 | | 7:16 pm |
Happy Sunday everyone
It was a glorious day today and I did NOTHING - this is something that very seldom happens. Hubby dragged the TV out in the yard under the canvas gazebo and we watched the Yankee game while I sipped a wine cooler. Then I decided to hook up the sandbag and put on the boxing gloves for 1/2 hour, followed by my 3 year old grandbaby taking me out jogging around the block, definitely the most fun workout I've had in a while. Then it was Chinese for supper and I plan to crash on the couch tonight. I got called last minute to fill in for the lector last night, and it was nice. We had lots of extra people since there is a big golf tournament going on this weekend. As a side note - Our bishop is stepping down as of tomorrow. Bishop Martino received lots of notority for his stands on lots of stuff, not the least of which was his telling us how we should vote last year, and his threats to deny communion to any legislator who voted against what he thought. He threatened to not allow the traditional mass at the cathedral before the St Patrick's day parade if the allowed any pro-choice candidate to march. All these things and many more were put out as news releases - he never came out to talk to anyone and there were many more things that he did that alienated many members of the church locally. He didn't have an easy job, but he seemed to make it harder on himself than he had to, and while I disagreed with him on many issues, I truly think he did his best, he just wasn't the right man for the job. There is supposed to be a news conference tomorrow. I can't wait to see if he shows or jusr issues another release. | | Friday, August 28th, 2009 | | 4:34 pm |
Did lots today and it's only half over. worked 1/2 day and then took the afternoon off. Picked out some new glasses at the eye doctors. I'm going back to the plastic lenses - the nose pieces on the wire rims drive me crazy. Problem was I never liked the way the plastic ones looked, but I found a pair of purple/gray ones that aren't too bad, actually I like them. They should be ready in a week. I also got a pair of sunglasses that are designed to go over glasses. They were kinda pricey for me, but I liked them too and I've always wanted a pair like them but never knew where to get them before, so I'm a happy camper now. On the down side, I had to pull out my tomato plants and junk them because the got the "late blight". I read that it's something that only affects tomatoes and potatoes (it's the disease that caused the Irish potato famine in the 1800's). I'm hoping that by getting rid of the infected plants, my other 2 won't be affected. They also said that there's lots of it infecting the east coast, maybe I picked a bad year to try gardening - I'll try again next year. On the other hand, my squash plant looks great, and the gladiolas are coming in nicely. | | Thursday, August 27th, 2009 | | 6:43 pm |
yay Thursday
and I don't have to go to the office tomorrow, working from home for 1/2 day and then going to the eye doctor and off to talk to someone about the billing on my health care plan - I'm pretty sure they screwed it up again. Guess I'll see what I can do about it. Big news at work is that the agents are moving into our building by the end of the month - they will have the north side of the 1st floor and we'll have the south side. Pain in the butt and we're all just hoping that the dress code doesn't change | | Wednesday, August 26th, 2009 | | 11:12 pm |
Bummer
Really sad to see Ted Kennedy died. I know everybody does, and I know that with the brain cancer he lived longer than expected. I know he and his brothers weren't angels. I somehow believe that he really was a great legislator, that he actually believed in the causes he was supporting, and that I usually agreed with his thoughts. For us baby boomers, it's the end of an era. For us hippies, it's the passing of a way of thinking. For me personally, well it's just the final blow against Camelot. | | Tuesday, August 25th, 2009 | | 10:34 pm |
day 2 - I'm going to post again. Still not alot going on, today was supposed to be the big pink slip day, but an e-mail received late last week said that they were going to wait until October. Considering that this is the first time they ever came out and told us they were going to do it before they do it, we're figuring that it's going to be big. At my late stage of the game, the question becomes do I want to stay or go. We've found out that the people who are left have to pick up the slack from the people who left, which means more work on stuff you have no idea about. I've seen 2 big problems in the past 2 weeks that shouldn't have happened but the people who know how to take care of those systems have been let go. I figure it can only get worse. On a personal note, I put 2 bowls of beer out in my garden to try to get rid of the slugs, it's a cure I remember my Dad using in his garden. The one bowl was filled to the top with dead slugs the next day. I guess that's good maybe I'll actually get to eat some of my tomatoes before they get to them Current Music: the mentalist | | Monday, August 24th, 2009 | | 10:37 pm |
Today was boring, but I am going to try to get used to posting, even if it's just for myself. Exercise wise, I went for a walk at lunch and went jogging with hubby when I got home. I hope i shows on my weigh in tomorrow. Granddaughter got on TV last Saturday, I mean, come on - how many 3 year olds can give a reasonable interview to a reporter she's never met and come off cute doing it (not just my opinion - the anchor man said so. Hopefully I'll get better at this Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: Keith Oberman | | Wednesday, August 19th, 2009 | | 8:57 pm |
Ladies, I just bought me a brand spankin' new 2009 Mazda 3. I love Mazdas I took a vacation in 1995 and that was the rental and I've been driving them ever since. I had a Mazda 626, a mazda protege, and right now I have a silver 2005 Mazda3 and the baby looks like this | | Saturday, June 13th, 2009 | | 11:54 pm |

Another Birthday
Like I said last year - they just seem to sneak up on me anymore - so anyway, I'm 56 and eligible for lots of senior discounts - yay for me, I'll take them. Big surprise this year, hubby is taking me out to dinner = and not to Wendy's either, a restaurant that takes reservations. If you don't know me, you have to know that this is a big deal, and an incredible sacrifice for a man who hates waiting for the food to come, especially now that they don't allow smoking, but it was his idea and I love it. I get to wear my new dress. | | Monday, June 8th, 2009 | | 3:25 pm |
Monday Mania
Since I took the day off of work, I have time to post today. I had a very good weekend. Saturday early Hubby and I took the granddaughter to see "Walking with Dinosaurs". It was a great show, even if you don't have a kid in tow. It was educational and the dinosaurs were really lifelike, very well done. Came home and relaxed in the sun and read the paper. Reading the paper is a real luxury for me, I get the paper daily but never seem to find time to sit down and read it, but the yard is pretty much done, except for maintainance. Have a few more flowers to put in the ground, but basically it looks better this year than it has in years and the garden is in - yay, so I'm determined to take the time to enjoy being out in it this year. I got a new grill (compliments of the company for completing my 35th year of service), so it's all good right now(at least until the next round of layoffs - probably in Sept.). Saturday evening I got to read during the Mass. I always love to be the lector, just kind of makes me feel special and a bit more involved. Saturday night hubby built a bonfire in the firebowl and we listened to music and enjoyed each others' company as it got dark and the stars came out. Sunday morning, my youngest and I went to sell at the flea market. We had agreed that anything that didn't go was going to Salvation army afterwards - this is our second attempt at getting rid of the stuff we cleaned out of the house and I just didn't feel like doing a third, especially since we have to borrow a truck and such when we do it, so anyway we were out of the house at 7am and setting up shop shortly before 8. It turned out to be an incredibly hot and sunny day, but we had a good time none the less. The people always seem to be friendly at flea markets. We made a couple of bucks but we decided we were pretty much done, we started yelling - one free kids book to any child - I have to admit that my kids always loved books and I was a little saddened by the number of kids who had no interest in getting a book - then we were yelling one free kids book to anybody who knew a kid. About 1/2 hour after that we were giving away a free book and a free toy to anyone who wanted it. There still seemed to be so much stuff to pack up and we were tired so the last 1/2 hour was "Just leave us the truck and the camp chairs - otherwise take what you want" There was one girl who took a couple of bags of clothes and thanked us profusely saying she had lost everything in a fire a couple of weeks ago, we felt good about that. We still had to take stuff to the Salvation army - especially since we realized that there was stuff in the one car we forgot to put out. Oh and the regulars who had the spots on either side of us thought it was great since we had drawn a crowd of people over to our area of the market. All in all we had a blast, but we were burnt and tired when we got home. | | Monday, June 1st, 2009 | | 7:25 pm |
Monday Madness
I actually had a pretty quiet weekend. Spent much of Saturday playing in the dirt, but I think the garden is done except for the growing. I have some more flowers that I don't know where I'm going to put them yet and I definitely need more tacky stuff, but for now, it looks good. Saturday hubby make a fire in our fire bowl and we sat outside and listened to music - it was soooo nice. Sunday finally made the trip home to put flowers on my parents grave - and my grandparents and my aunts and uncles - they're all mostly in the same place, at least Mom's side of the family. That's pretty much it | | Thursday, May 7th, 2009 | | 9:54 pm |

Monday Madness
Usually don't get to this one, but I have the day off and I'm taking a break. The weekend is beautiful and it might actually hit 90 today, I love it when it warms up. The whole weekend has been great. Spent most of it playing in the dirt - I'm trying to put in a real garden this year, so I spent the weekend tilling and mixing in topsoil and lime and compost with the garden dirt. Other years I just threw a couple of plants in pots and stuck them in my "tacky garden", which was a 4X20 patch in the back yard where I put all my weird garden stuff - like my light up, moving, pink flamingos and my regular pink flamingos, my frog and turtles conga line, my garden gnomes (including one that sings "I feel good") and some other silly stuff. My t5acky stuff will still be out there when I get done, just the pots are going away for some real in the dirt vegetables - wish me luck, I don't know if I'll be any good at this yet |
