    And so this is Christmas
...And what could be more appropriate for Christmas than a cuddly bear who loves kids, right?

Solstice was nice. I went to the Yule service and found a couple of like- minded people who live in my remote camp.

On the other side of my spirituality, there's church in an hour and a half, after which some of us are going to the bazaar. It's something to do; I'm not buying anything I don't think. I might get a Christmas pizza and then go back to my camp and watch movies or write fanfic.

[info]helenkacan, sorry the call got cut off. I ran out of minutes. I hope it didn't scare you too much.

Just wanted to wish everyone a good one, and only 3 more days till I get leave!

Someone asked how I was today.
The answer is... some better but far from good. Remember when you were a kid and fell and broke your arm? I'm 66 years old and last week they split my entire breastbone... top to bottom... just opened me up and divided it down the middle.

    Here's what I didn't know then that I wish I had:

    What I've been reading
Because it's the only thing I have time to do.

Patrick Chamoiseau: "Texaco". This is a magical-realism novel about the history of Martinique. It is based on the memoirs of the fictional Marie-Sophie Laborieux, descendant of slaves and foundress of the shantytown Texaco. I recommend this one. I enjoyed it a great deal, though the writing style was a bit hard to get into. Once I was in the groove, I loved it.

Deborah Rodriguez, "Kabul Beauty School". READ IT. It's all true.

"Latifa", "My Forbidden Face". Read this one before "Beauty School". A young woman who now has refuge in France recounts being an adolescent under the Taliban. Tense, depressing, and why I now have it in for the "Patriarchal Christians" like the Duggars more than ever.

TJ Jefferson, "California Girl". Scandal, murder and the John Birch Society in 1968 Orange County. This was the time and place [info]americanstd was born and it made me feel closer to him.

    Therapy
I have decided my problem is that I need more Bollywood. Fortunately, that is drop dead easy to obtain here.

Nine days till I go on leave, excluding this one. I am living them in honour of Odin's hanging on the World-Tree. Mind you, I've been given at least two days off during that time, so again I wuss out.

    I have become prey...
I have a tiny line that runs down my belly. It's a "bloodline". It almost doesn't hurt at all but still... it is my bloodline. Dr al Nabahn made it for me, from my first bypass to my ever so calculated 6th. It runs all the way from my neck to my anklest.

Sophie knows that it's there... and she knows that she NEEDS to lick it for me, She's not allowed but she can't take "No" for and answer. Tomorrow we'll fight a little more passionately about it. I'm too tired tonight and Sophie really, really. really loves me.
